When you outsource your software development project to a vendor based in some other location, the vendor would allocate few resources (tech professionals) to work on your project. Have you ever checked the quality and experience of the resources allocated for your project? Have you ever interviewed these resources to figure out if they are the right fit for your project?
As customer if you are engaging with a vendor on T&M or FTE arrangement to get your software application development requirement fulfilled it’s very important that you need to check the quality & experience of the resources allocated for your project, interview them & be sure they are the right people for your project.
When your vendor doesn’t ensure some pre agreed delivery but they will assign their resources for your project and they may claim such resources have X years of relevant experience & may also share their profiles.
But as a customer if you do not interview these resources how will you know that they are the right fit for your project? You need to interview the resources doesn’t matter whether they work out of vendor location or your location.
Checking the quality & experience of the resources allocated to your project by interviewing or discussing with them ensures you they are the right people for your project because you will be paying for the team allocated and not for the final result.
You may have hired a great vendor for your software application development project but how will you know they have allocated right resources for your project without discussing/interviewing these resources?
When we have to hire a candidate to work fulltime in our company we will shortlist the profile, interview the candidate & then hire if he/she is a right fit. But when we outsource our software application development needs for an offshoring company normally we would have signed the deal by looking at the vendor’s credibility, experience, presentations, case studies and proposal.
But we wouldn’t have interviewed/selected the resources who actually works on our project. They may or may not be the right people for our project and adding to this the vendor doesn’t ensure any delivery, they would only bill us for the resources allocated on a month on month basis.
Getting the work done from the allocated team is a complete responsibility of Customer. So it makes total sense to check & ensure whether we have the right team allocated to our project (even on an offshore arrangement)
